National Voluntary Scheme

MADE GREEN IN ITALY

The Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) is a measurement methodology based on the assessment of the environmental performance of a specific product, analysed throughout its entire Life Cycle – LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). It was defined by the European Commission as a unified approach (the so-called European Single Method) in Recommendation 2021/2279/EU of 16 December 2021. The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has adopted the PEF methodology to create the national voluntary scheme for the assessment and communication of product environmental footprints, known as Made Green in Italy. More information is available on the page Schema Nazionale Made Green in Italy (Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security). https://www.mase.gov.it/pagina/lo-schema-nazionale-made-green-italy"

Hospital Service has achieved an important new milestone, Hospital Service has become one of the first companies in Italy, within the hotel–tourism and healthcare sectors, to obtain the Made Green in Italy Certification for three distinct product lines. This achievement confirms the Company’s commitment to sustainability—an ongoing commitment that Hospital Service will continue to pursue with dedication in the perspective of supplying environmentally responsible products.

Products certified Made Green in Italy

  • Flat textile 100% cotton, yarn-dyed - Performance Class B;
  • Healthcare workwear - Performance Class A;
  • Reusable sterilised basic surgical kit - Performance Class A;
Information on the PEF Study

The Environmental Footprint Declaration (DIAP) of Hospital Service refers to the Environmental Footprint Assessment Study – industrial laundry service activities. Both documents (DIAP and Assessment Study) underwent an independent verification process carried out by the Certification Body CSQA.The objective of the study was to provide an indication of the environmental impact generated throughout the full life cycle of the analysed products (listed alongside), in compliance with the PCR (Product Category Rules) “Industrial laundry service activities” NACE 96.01.10 – Version 0.3.

The software used was Simapro 9.5, and the calculation method was EF 3.0 Method (adapted) v.1.01 Methods.

Product Information

Flat textile 100% cotton, yarn-dyed – Performance Class B Logo issue date 09/01/2025

The representative product considered for the study “Industrial laundry service for flat textiles – healthcare and tourism sectors” is the 100% cotton flat textile, white or yarn-dyed. Bleaching, mercerisation, and any dyeing process take place mainly at the yarn stage, as there are no specific requirements for colours or finishes from customers. Specifically, the study analysed a white single bottom sheet measuring 160 × 300.

Summary of results

For the Flat Textile category, the overall value of environmental impacts—combining the indicators for Climate Change, Water Resource Depletion, and Energy Resource Depletion—falls between the lower and upper benchmark; the comparison results in a Performance Class B.
